Educadora estadounidense que popularizó y dio forma a un movimiento conservador destinado a aumentar la importancia, como asimismo, a elevar y afianzar el papel de la mujer en el hogar. Hija de Lyman Beecher, clérigo y activista moderado, y hermana de Harriet Beecher Stowe y Henry Ward Beecher, participó en la fundación del Hartford Female Seminary (1823) y de otras organizaciones destinadas a la educación de la mujer. Su popular obra titulada Treatise on Domestic Economy [Tratado de economía doméstica] (1841) contribuyó a estandarizar las actividades prácticas del hogar y, al mismo tiempo, a reforzar la creencia de que el hogar era el lugar más apropiado para la mujer.
